It was a beautiful May morning, Saturday, ten thirty, quiet, except for the clicking of my heels. I looked like a woman going to the opera, an art gallery opening, having a night out with the girls. The last two months my wardrobe had blossomed, just like the flowers I was smelling, passing, comparing myself to... even wearing. I had my hands on the railing, sliding up, my long pink nails and thick bracelet glowing in the broken, flickering sunlight. I was traipsing up the cement steps of Oak Street Park, the one not too far from my condo, not too far from my life as a male with a boring job, no ambition, and a disinterested wife. I knew behind me I was being followed, I knew they were watching my beige shiny legs in my short tight flowered dress, I knew they were focusing on my six-inch peach pumps.

I bent down, made believe I was wiping dew from my painted toes, made believe I was having trouble. I made sure I shook my ass, then stood and shook my hair. My longer-than-usual blondness floated around my face on my naked shoulders, all the way down to the center of my back.
I was showing off, one hand on my hip, dipping the sunglasses further down my nose. I spun, surveying the green field in the distance, the dogs on leashes, the ladies with baby carriages. I smiled, I knew they could see me, I also knew that someone was watching my pinker lips, my white teeth. My long lashes above my blue eyes followed the birds flying safely into the trees. The slight breeze forced me to fix my hair, play with the curly tendrils falling over my face and body. I stood still, I waited, I wanted them to catch up to me.
