Hard Decisions by Elaine © 2020

On the way downstairs, I checked my make-up and decided to give my lips a further coat of lipstick. I squirmed, as I felt excited at how I looked. My pantyhose covered legs were unhindered as they rubbed together, and the static electricity flowed deep inside me. I'm sure that's not the only thing that's flowing. At that moment I absolutely loved being a girl.

I looked at my slim limp wrist and realised that my gold watch was still upstairs at my vanity. It was a gift from Janine and I always think of her when I wear it or look at it. Maybe that was what she’d had in mind when she gave it to me. I then stared in shock and realised that I hadn't worn my matching necklace and bracelet either.

Doing up the catches on the jewellery was a real pain but eventually I managed to get them done up.

I grabbed a silk pattern scarf and wrapped it around my neck. I grabbed my long woollen coat, took a slurp of cold coffee and headed out towards my car. Driving in heels has always been easy for me and I felt good operating the pedals. I felt my hose covered legs rubbing together as the pedals moved. I covered the seven miles without a mishap, which seemed like a miracle, as I wasn’t really concentrating on my driving.

There was a cold wind blowing, as I stepped out into the wide car park next to the cinema. I felt it swirl around my ankles despite the long woollen coat I’d wisely decided to wear. I entered the main hallway of the theatre and saw Jamie standing in line waiting to buy our tickets. I stood back and observed him rather than go rushing up to take his arm. He bought two expensive tickets using cash.

He wore navy blue chinos, a check shirt and a sports jacket. His short hair was well groomed like he’d just been to the hairdresser too. He turned to look for me and saw me walking towards him. We greeted each other with a hug rather than a kiss.

"Hi," he said, "let's go, the movie starts in a few minutes."

"Ah do you mind if we get something to eat first I’m famished," I said slightly nervously.
